An Arts & Crafts Escritoire, designed by Charles Robert Ashbee and made by the Guild of Handicraft, in green stained oak, with pierced wrought iron hinges backed by morocco leather, the interior of poplar, the inside of the doors painted and inscribed with a design by C.F.A Voysey, the writing surface of macassar ebony c.1900

* The inscription recounts that the piece was made as a gift to Lady Mary Lovelace from her sister Anne Blunt.

* Photographs of the escritoire before decoration are contained in the "Workshop Record Book" of the Guild of Handicraft, and also in Ashbee's own photograph albums (both in the National Art Library).

* Voysey's design for his part in the handiwork is in the collection of the RIBA.
