Paul Reeves

Paul Reeves began collecting British furniture and artefacts over forty years ago. He opened his first shop in 1976 dealing in items from the 19th and 20th centuries. He was previously a successful clothing designer with premises on London's Fulham Rd. Until the opening of the gallery on London's Kensington Church Street in 1981 he also designed interiors for select clients, echoing the decorative philosophy of the design movements which he so admired.

Today the business continues to focus on selling to private collectors and museums, items produced by the leading figures of the design-world of late nineteenth and twentieth century Britain. Since the business was established many major works by the pre-eminent architects, artists and designers of the period have been rediscovered, researched and marketed.

This website has recently been expanded and updated to show selected items from a large stock. It is not our intention to show everything that we have for sale - in particular, some of the more expensive and rare items are not featured. However, we welcome enquiries concerning specific pieces that you may be looking for, or more general enquiries relating to furnishing requirements.

We are always keen to purchase interesting items but regret that we cannot give valuations over the internet.

Since the business was established many significant works by the following eminent architects, artists and designers working during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries have been rediscovered by Paul and his team:

A.W.N. and E.W. Pugin, William Burges, Daniel Cottier, E.W. Godwin, Chr. Dresser, Alfred Waterhouse, Bruce Talbert, William Morris, Phillip Webb, George Jack, Walter Crane, A.H Mackmurdo, W.R. Lethaby, Ernest Gimson, Sidney and Edward Barnsley, M.H. Baillie Scott, C.R. Mackintosh, George Walton, Edwin Lutyens and numerous others.

In Britain, items that we have sold can be seen in: The British Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, The Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery, The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, National Trust properties and many other regional museums and galleries.

Abroad our institutional clients include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Wolfsonian Institute, The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, OMAK, Vienna, and a number of institutes in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

We have worked closely with the major private collectors in this field, and pride ourselves with nurturing these relationships and establishing a close contact that allows us to identify key pieces that add to their collections.

We always try to make available items (either held by us or previously sold by us) for loan to museums. In this way we have contributed to many national and international exhibitions.

We also work with international architects and interior designers.

All our clients are accorded the utmost privacy and discretion.

Our large and constantly changing stock is viewable strictly by appointment at our Cotswold showrooms.
